Cluster Beans Matodi Palya (Curry)

Cluster Beans Matodi Palya (Curry)

My mom used to prepare this recipe using cluster beans and sometimes with methi(fenugreek) leaves. I remembered this recipe sometime back and then took it from her. I was just searching on the net if this recipe is prepared by others and found that its prepared in many kannadigas housesJ.Its prepared rarely at home because its time consuming and second reason being that it consumes more oil.

Red Chillies : 6-7

Cumin Seeds : 1.5 tsp

  • Soak Chana Dhal in water for close 3-4 hrs. This is similar to the process of making masala Vadas
  • Chop Cluster Beans into small pieces.
  • Not Grind the soaked Chana Dhal along with Red Chillies and one teaspoon of cumin seeds to a medium smooth paste
  • Transfer this paste in a vessel and then and add the chopped cluster beans and mix well.
  • Heat little oil in a pan and add the remaining cumin seeds to splutter
  • Once oil is hot add this the beans mixture and keep stirring it well.
  • Close the lid and cook it for 5-7 mins
  • Open the lid add some more oil, mix well and then close the lid
  • Repeat this process until the mixture is well fried and attains sand like consistency
  • The idea behind adding oil every now and then is to ensure to not to pour excess oil to an already oily stuff.
  • Once the mixture is well cooked, switch off the stove.
  • Serve with hot rice and ghee.
