Moong Dal Chakli

Crunchy, munchy Chaklis or Murukkus are usually made from rice flour and are a great accompaniment to tea, coffee or just by themselves. Like I said before, they are traditionally made from rice flour but Moong Dal Chakli recipe is made with a twist. These chaklis are made using Moong Dal, and are equally crunchy and delicious.

Split Green Gram Fritters

Ingredients

  1. Moong dal -1 cup
  2. Chana dal – 4-5 grains
  3. Rice Flour-3 times the quantity of powdered moog dal
  4. Jeera-1.5 tbsp
  5. Hing-1/4th tsp
  6. Green Chillies-6-7 (ground to coarse paste-One turn in the mixer will do)
  7. Salt-To taste
  8. Warm water – Sufficient enough to make a chakli dough
  9. Oil-For Frying

Method

  • Heat an empty kadai sufficient enough to warm up the dal.
  • Now drop moon dal and chana dal into the hot kadai and close it with a lid and let it remain until it cools down
  • Grind it to a fine powder
  • Now for one measure of this powder add three measures of rice flour in a big plate. To this add jeera, hing, salt, green chili paste and mix well.
  • Now to this mixture add 2 tbsp of smoking oil and mix well. Separate out some quantity of this mixture and make into a smooth chakli dough by adding warm water.

  • Load the above dough into the chakli presser and press it into the shape of chaklis on plastic sheets.
  • Drop them then smoking hot oil. Remove them once they are well fried and store them in air tight container.

Split Green Gram Fritters

  • Repeat this process for the next set of chaklis.

  12. PS: a) Do not mix the complete mixture with warm water once for all. Make the dough once you are done with the previous set.
  13. b) Warm water helps in avoiding the chaklis from breaking while frying
