This version of Radish Chutney is prepared by grinding shallow fried Radish with Roasted Peanuts. Hmmm sounds very tasty isn’t it ?. Since we are also adding peanuts for this chutney, we can also have this chutney for any breakfast food like Idli, dosa etc.

Many of my friends know what a big fan of chutneys I am. Chutneys and Pickles are an essential part of my every meal. I inherited this taste from my Grand Mother and now my 2.5 years old niece also follows me in this regard J. Now a days I make two chutneys a week because of time constraints. I plan making chutneys on weekends so that it can be available for the entire week.

Radish Chutney is a unique chutney which is made in my house. There are many ways in which Radish Chutney can be prepared. This version is simple and tasty.

This version of Radish Chutney is prepared by grinding shallow fried Radish with Roasted Peanuts. Hmmm sounds very tasty isn’t it ?. Since we are also adding peanuts for this chutney, we can also have this chutney for any breakfast food like Idli, dosa etc.

As such Radish is slightly pungent and strong in taste. Radish Chutney can be prepared by adding raw radish in one of the variations. It is prepared in some parts of Tamil Nadu

Ingredients
  1. Radish – 2 Medium Sized
  2. Green Chillies – 4 to 5 or depending on Taste
  3. Roasted and de-skinned peanuts – 3-4 tbsp.
  4. Tamarind – Gooseberry sized soaked in water
  5. Oil – 1 tbsp.
  6. Salt – To taste
For Tempering
  1. Black Gram (Urad Dal) – ½ spoon
  2. Mustard and cumin seeds -1/2 spoon each
  3. Broken Red Chillies – 2
  4. Curry Leaves – Few
  5. Oil – 1 tbsp.
Method
  1. Peel the skin of the radish and slice it into thin pieces. The idea behind slicing it thin is to ensure quick frying of the radish
  2. Heat Oil in a pan and add the sliced radish pieces and shallow fry them until you see the edges of the slices turning slightly brown
  3. Take out the Radish Slices and in the same pan add in green chillies broken into half each and fry for 2-3 minutes
  4. Extract the pulp out of soaked tamarind and keep it aside
  5. Once the radish slices cool down, grind it along with fried Green chillies, roasted peanuts, Tamarind Pulp and salt. Add little water if required depending upon the required consistency.
  6. For Tempering
  7. Heat oil in pan and once hot, add in the black Gram (Urad Dal).
  8. Once they start turning brown in colour, add in mustard and cumin seeds.
  9. Finally add broken red chillies and curry leaves and switch off the stove immediately.
  10. Add the tempering into the prepared Radish Chutney and mix well
  11. Serve it with any course of meal and enjoy.

Once the radish slices cool down, grind it along with fried Green chillies, roasted peanuts, Tamarind Pulp and salt. Add little water if required depending upon the required consistency.

For Tempering

Heat oil in pan and once hot, add in the black Gram (Urad Dal).

Once they start turning brown in colour, add in mustard and cumin seeds.

Finally add broken red chillies and curry leaves and switch off the stove immediately.

Add the tempering into the prepared Radish Chutney and mix well
