Spicy Garlic Powder
Along with Pickles and chutneys there are many spice powders prepared in India which are preserved on a long term basis. Especially in Southern Part of India there are variety of spice powders available which can be eaten with Breakfast like Idli, dosa and with hot rice and ghee.
To name a few some of the spice powders, that are prepared and stored for a longer time are, Chutney Powder, Rice Mix Powder, Fried Gram Powder, Peanut Powder etc.
Spicy Garlic Powder is one such powder which tastes yummy with hot rice. This is given to new moms. The Garlic in this powder helps in maintaining the body temperature as well as helps in improving the lactation of new momJ. These are some of the recipes and ideas which are carefully preserved and then transferred to our generation.
I first ate this Spicy Garlic Powder in my town prepared by one of our neighbours. As such I like the flavour of Garlic and hence forced my mom to start preparing this Spicy Garlic Powder at home. So from then on mom prepared this powder for me every now and then.
There are two variations of this Spicy Garlic Powder. One using Fresh Grated Coconut and other using Dry coconut. The former one cannot be retained for more than 2 to 3 days. While the latter can be preserved up to a week or 10 days.
Spicy Garlic Powder is prepared combining Garlic, Coconut and chilli powder. It is very easy to prepare and tastes so good and yummy
Let us see how to make this Spicy Garlic Powder
- Fresh/Dry Coconut: 3 Cups Grated
- Garlic: 2 Bulbs
- Chilli Powder: 3 tbsp. or according desired Spice Levels
- Salt: To taste
- Grate the Coconut or chop them into small pieces if using dry coconut and keep it aside
- Peel the skin of garlic
- Transfer both Coconut, garlic into the mixer jar and add in salt and chilly powder
- Grind all of the above to a coarse powder
- Transfer it to an airtight container and preserve.
- Serve it with hot rice and ghee.
Fresh/Dry Coconut: 3 Cups Grated
